Parking Cars with Wi-Fi

New York Times

San Francisco is set to test a new wireless sensor network with 6,000 of its 24,000 metered parking spaces. The idea is that you can search on your smartphone for available spaces whilst driving.

But wait, it gets better!

Chrysler has also today announced it plans to introduce w-fi technology to British vehicles by the end of next year.

See where I’m going with this…

All we need now is for TomTom to add wi-fi to its devices and hey presto we can all go out and buy networked cars. Okay, so the fact that petrol prices, congestion charges and increased road tax will make driving more expensive than flying first class half way around the world shouldn’t be ignored but think how cool it will be not having to pay £10 an hour in an NCP 3 hours from where you were trying to get to in the first place.
